GRID-TIE (ON-GRID) SOLAR SYSTEM

This is the perfect start to “going Solar”, with much lower capital and installation costs, same capacity but reduced electricity costs. You can decide to save 20% or 100% whilst still using your normal electricity at night. A grid-tie system can also feed excess energy back into the grid for credit, and then use it up again at night.Power your home with Solar – whilst still connected – and reduce your electricity bill.

Ample Power’s Solar PV grid-tie system works by tying the power that is produced by the Solar system, to your normal electricity supply / utility grid. This is an efficient choice for a Solar system as any additional energy created from the Solar panels, not consumed by your business during the day, is stored in the utility grid and not wasted. This reduces the capital, installation and maintenance costs of a Solar system as you don’t require a large battery bank to run at night. To use this Solar system effectively you can produce more power than you are using (during an average day), so your electricity meter turns backwards (reverse feed) legally. In effect you build up energy credits (not Rand credits), which you then use up at night when there is no sun power.

A grid-tie Solar system works in harmony with the utility grid, so should your household electricity demand be greater than the supply from your Solar system, the grid-tie system will automatically and seamlessly draw the additional power required from your utility grid as a top up. When your Solar system is grid-tied, you can save up to 100% of your electricity consumption without changing your lifestyle. Our systems are designed to accommodate future growth, so you can start small (according to your budget) and add to your Solar system as required. Grid-tie systems are commonly used all over the world, although still a relatively new concept in Southern Africa.

> HYBRID SOLAR SYSTEM (Grid-Tie & Backup)

In addition to wanting to save money with a grid-tie system you also want some backup power for those scheduled / unscheduled power outages. We simply include batteries to store power for these occasions. We can include a wind turbine, generator or UPS linked up to the system to integrate seamlessly. Save with Solar, stay connected and relax with a battery backup system. Hybrid systems are ideal when you want it all. A Hybrid system will reduce your capital and electricity costs and provide a reliable backup power system.

Solar power will supply your home and any excess power is fed back into the grid, thereby utilising all of the power from the panels. In doing so, no cycling of batteries would occur thus extending the life of the batteries. The surplus power generated during the day by the Solar panels or wind would then be used at night by drawing from your grid supply as normal, or be charged into the batteries by the island inverters. During the night or high-peak demands the island system would supply power to the appliances.

Should the grid fail, the system would operate in off-grid mode. The Solar panels would supply power directly to the appliances during the day. Surplus power generated by Solar panels or wind would be charged to the batteries. During the night your Hybrid system batteries, would supply power to all or only essential appliances as you prefer.

OFF GRID (Island) SOLAR SYSTEM

For when you have no electricity grid or just want to have total electrical independence (generation and storage), an off-grid (Island) Solar system is ideal. Your own independent Power production whenever and wherever. In addition to powering entire homes, businesses, farms, etc, these systems are ideal for use in powering water pumps, lighting, electric fences and signs. They are suited for use in remote locations or any location where running power lines is impractical or undesirable.

An off-grid Solar PV (photovoltaic) system produces its entire electrical power needs on its own without any connection to electric company power lines, and is, therefore, ideal for remote areas. The additional power created by the Solar PV panels is stored in batteries to be consumed during the night or in the case of severe weather conditions. During the day energy will be supplied directly into the house via the PV panels, and the excess is stored in the batteries. System design is critical here as is the use of quality components as a cheap, poor choice of inverter, batteries or charger, could be extremely costly and short lived.
